The Moormead Community Picnic is Back. And this time, we have camels

Local music, food, and catch up on the pavilion project. Our annual picnic returns on Sunday 6 September – and we can’t wait to see you there.     

There are few better ways to spend a late-summer afternoon than on the grass at Moormead Park.

Bring a blanket. Bring the family. And settle in for live music, local food, games, and performances. You can even try your hand at camel racing. Yes, really.

The Moormead Community Picnic is back on 6 September.

Catch up with friends and neighbours. You can also chat to the pavilion volunteer team to hear how much progress has been made on the project – and what comes next.

We’ve got a brilliant group of local performers joining us:

Entertainment:

11.30 – 12.45:                  Marble Hill Dance School

14.30 – 15.30:                  Alex Driver and Joshua Jarvis

You can try Boccia, the Paralympic sport that’s become something of a Moormead favourite. Play tennis, get your face painted, and find out if you’re a camel racing pro. (No actual camels are involved.)

And no community picnic is complete without something tasty to eat. Doughful Turkish Pancakes, Issac’s Coffee, and Spice Up will all be joining us. And of course you’ll find Candy floss, popcorn, and ice-cream.

The picnic has always been about more than putting on a good day in the park.

Over the past few years, this community has been working towards something much bigger: replacing the old pavilion with a welcoming, accessible place for sport, wellbeing and simply spending time together.

And there’s been real progress.

Last year we secured £350,000 from the Richmond Community Fund. The volunteer team has continued developing the pavilion plans, working with local organisations and thinking carefully about how the building can work for people who currently face barriers to enjoying the park.

If you want to know what’s happening with the pavilion, come and find us. The volunteer team will be there throughout the day to answer questions, share the latest developments and talk about next steps.

Could you help us get there?

Everything achieved so far has depended on people giving their time and expertise. As we move towards construction, we need more help.

We’re particularly looking for residents with experience in finance, construction, legal matters, events and café partnership development, as well as people who can help us grow our team of trustees and volunteers.
